vrf GPIB and W&G PCM-4 Machine

Question asked by VRFuser on Mar 7, 2000
Hello Stephen

I don't know this particular piece of gear but it seems to be returning a
result whatever you send it.
I have seen other instruments that do this when they get a command string
that is unrecognised or incorrectly terminated.

It could be that the comnmand strings that you are sending need to have the
correct terminators.

Subject: vrf GPIB and W&G PCM-4 Machine

Hello all,

I'm new to GPIB and am experiancing difficulties interfacing the "Wandel and
Goltermann - PCM Channel Measuring Set".

My situation is as follows.

I'm using HPVee V5.01 on a PII 350 Mhz Win95 machine equipted with a
National Instruments GPIB-PCII card.

When i perform a ID Query on the device "*IDN?" it returns the last
measurement
result it has performed.

When i perform a Status Byte/Mask  Query on the device "*SRE?" and "*STB?"
it
also returns the last measurement result it has performed.

This only occurs with the W&G PCM4 device and not other newer devices.

When I issue a command from it's command set to commence a measurement ie
"START," etc ie performs as expected however when i attempt to poll it's
status
byte to find out if the measurement has completed, it returns the last
measurement reult and disrupts/terminates the required measurement.

Has anyone had experiance with a similar product or problem??

Regards
Cheng
