antenna in free space

Question asked by vbuicu on Jan 12, 2004

I have a question regarding the EM simulator of Genesys.
I am trying to simulate an antenna in open space and I took a look at the "Simple Dipole" example, which models this by using the 377 ohm impedance for the top and bottom covers. But in this case the antenna S11 depends on the height of the air layers above and below it; they are set at 50 mm - is there some rule to chose this height to best approximate "free space" ?

Also, just to make sure that I understood correctly: the simulation takes place inside a box with metallic sidewalls, and I only have control on the various layers inside the box and on the top and bottom covers ?

Thank you for helping me with this.
