When I invoke visualization all I get is a black screen in the location where the layout should be. I also can't get any of the graphs to appear. The menus and buttons appear correctly and are clickable. What is wrong?
Don't know if you are running on UNIX or not. If you do, then it sounds like a color resource problem.
Try to close all other applications, e.g. run only ADS
Depending on the UNIX environment, there is typically a way to allocate more resources to the applications. Please check with your local UNIX admin, or refer to the UNIX manuals etc

The "black window" problem has been reported by at least 2 users and in both cases was fixed when making the post processor as large as possible with the "Maximize" button. However, we have other platforms where the solution was to change the number of colors to 256 (or cycle through all combos 8-bit, 32-bit, etc.). BTW, when ADS is released on Linux native, it will not support the visualization module until some future release.
