DAC Interpolation Domain Settings

I have a Touchstone format data file.  The freq points are 1-10GHz in 1GHz increments.  The data is in dB/ang format.  The S-Parm sweep generator is set to 1-10GHz in 1GHz steps.  If the DAC accessing this file has interpolation domain set to POLAR the displayed output appears proper, when set to DB the data is misinterpreted, positive S11...etc. (this is a passive network!).

I thought POLAR was for interpolating MA and DB for dB/ang.  What's going on; why is there any interpolation occurring when the sweep is identical to the data file steps?
