Hi everybody,
Does anyone know how to read the optical/electrical S21 measured by an 8703A to ADS?
The instrument server reads the electrical S21, not the OE one.
Is there a way to perform such operation?
Thanks in advance
Davide

Unfortunately, the 8703A Lightware O/E analyzer is not one of the instruments supported by either of the existing ADS 2003A instrument communication tools:
1)Instrument Server (legacy Instrument IO utility) 2)Connection Manager (latest Instrument IO tool which works over Agilent Toolkit and Microsoft.net)
Thus, I am not surprised that you had trouble getting the data that you want.
WORK AROUND TO GET DATA INTO ADS
I talked with a colleague of mine who supports the 8730A. He mentioned that the 8730A currently saves data to the legacy LIF data format, but the newer 8730B model will save data to standard formats like touchstone(SNP) which can be read by ADS directly (using either Instrument Server's READ from file or a DAC based component like "S2P" in ADS RF/Analog Schematic).
The other approach would be to save your data from the 8730A using another program (Agilent VEE Pro, BASIC, C, C++, etc..)into a text/ASCII format. Then, converting to one of the many ASCII data formats that ADS can recognize (Ex: Generic MDIF), then you can use ADS's DAC component to read in the ASCII file.
IF YOU NEED FURTHER ASSISTANCE
If you have more questions about how to use ADS to meet your needs, please see the following URL to access the right support team in your region:

If you have more questions about the 8730A instrument itself, please contact your local Agilent technologies instrument support hot-line.
I hope this helps! Thanks for your question.
