In addition to coupled slablines, why can't you synthesize coupled line filters with rectangular conductors?
I noticed the option exists in the ADSV freeware...

You can do this in GENESYS. Rectangular bars are just "thick" stripline. Close spacing is somewhat restricted, but you can "push" the limits and generally do OK since the thick stripline algorithms are pretty good.
