Record waveform from remote E5810 with GPIB instrument

I have some remote spectrum analyzers (SA) -- HP E4402B -- connected to a E5810 LAN/GPIB Gateway via the GPIB interface.

Right now I'm using the Agilent web remote control software to look at the SA trace with a web browser.  I know that on the web interface one can click "Get Data" to get a one-time snapshot of the current waveform data.  However, I'd like to record waveform data over long periods of time.  To be honest, I don't really know where to start.

I have both Windows and Linux systems on the same network as the E5810 and web remote server.  I'm pretty good with perl if it's possible to use that; but I didn't see any perl examples included with the IO Libraries suite.  I have some familiarity with VBS as well.

Thanks for any help or guidance you can provide.
