Is it possible to use the tracking generator as a simple sig gen for testing receiver sensitivity, it would save me carrying another instrument.

You can use the tracking generator of the N9340B for the purposes of outputting a CW signal if that is what you intend to work with - a CW signal output for your receiver test. The way to accomplish this is by setting the span to 0Hz in the Tracking Generator mode and setting the center frequency at the desired CW frequency, then setting the amplitude at a desired level, and finally turning on the amplitude.
