Is it possible to do serial decode with a 16500C and 16550A LA? Do I need addtional hardware? I like to look at I2C, SPI and UART and display in hex or ASCII. Is there a way to use the trigger macros to do this?
Did HP ever make an application to do serial decode on the 16550A?
Can you write applications for this machine and how?
Is there a website for people who can not give up their 16550C?
Thanks,
Ultraviolet

In theory, doing pure serial decode is possible, but you would have to unload the data from the analyzer to another computer and do it there
This is the best solution. There is a company called "Advanced Logical Design", http://www.ald.com that makes adapters for Agilent/HP logic analyzers for I2C, SPI and RS-232. The adapters change the serial stream into parallel data, then pass it to the analyzer. They then use a decoder to display information about the serial stream. They also provide some trigger capability.
I think I remember that there might have been one once, but it's been a LONG time since that was available
No, that's not possible. There was a package that would allow you to create inverse assemblers, again, it's been a LONG time since that was available
Not that I'm aware of. The 16500C went out of its 5 year support life in 2003. There are still some users, such as yourself, but they are dwindling, quickly, since repairs and SW are no longer available.
