I need to measure EVM on a EDGE Receiver lineup, i have a E4406A at my disposal, which options do i need to measure EVM ? can i use the 4406A with a R+S SMIQ to measure loopback BER on a GMSK/EDGE RX ?

The option in E4406A to measure EDGE EVM is option 202. However, upgrade options are no longer sold for E4406A due to the E4406A being discontinued three years ago. The E4406A in conjunction with the ESG could perform loopback BER measurements, but this required a specialized assembly in the ESG to make the BER measurements. The E4406A was simply used to down convert the incoming signal to a 321.4 MHz IF to feed the BER receiver card in the ESG. Unless the R&S SMIQ measures loopback BER using a 321.4 MHz IF input from an external down converter, the E4406A would not work with the R&S SMIQ for this application.
You can also use the E4406A in conjunction with the 89601A software to measure EDGE EVM. The 89601A software is available for a two week trial. Consequently, the latest versions of 89601A don’t have the DLL for controlling the E4406A included as standard, but you can request it to be provided.
