Hi,
I tried to install Option 290 on our E4411B but the install aborted on a checksum error, even though I had the analyser verify the files beforehand.
It seems the aborted install has kept a good portion of the memory flagged as "used". When I try the install again, I get a "not enough space" message even after erasing every file (setup, trace, etc) on drive C:.
Do you have suggestions ?
Best regards.

As a first step try to cycle the Analyzer power and re-install Option 290.
If the Option still does not install, try to install the latest version of Option 290 (A.01.00) by going to www.agilent.com/find/esa_firmware. (Click on ESA measurement personality and firmware).
Sometimes the personality Options will abort during installation when it realizes it does not have sufficient memory to complete the installation. After deleting all user saved files on the C:drive of the Analyzer, sometimes it is necessary to again power cycle the Analyzer for it to register the accurate available memory remaining.
If you are still unable to install Option 290 after trying the above steps, the next option will be to erase the entire flash which stores the instrument firmware and all the personality options and then reinstall ESA firmware and all associated personality Options. (this is the same thing as the "non-functional instrument" procedure that dgun referred to) Let me know if you need a hand with erasing the flash.
Best regards,
