Hi all,
I am working on an HP-8562A with a nonworking power supply (reference 08562-60058). It seems that the buck regulator is not working fine, so it would be great to have the corresponding CLIP to try to fix it.
Thanks for your help!
Regards,
JOSE

I am not very familiar with the HP 8562 Spectrum Analyzer, but I do have some experience with the HP 8590A analyzer, a similar product. In the HP 8590A, the switching power supply was considered to be a non-repairable item and no technical data (CLIP) was provided. If the supply malfunctioned, HP sold you a replacement. Of course, it is long out of support and unavailable.
By the time the 8590A was developed, HP bought their power supplies as a commodity - they provided a performance specification and an interface specification - a vendor could provide a power supply that met those requirements but no internal service data. This gave HP the ability to compete for lower cost supplies as power supply technology developed. While it is not clear if they really did use multiple vendors, there was no service data for the HP 8590A switching power supply.
About a year ago I found an internet post that suggested that the vendor for at least one version of the HP 8590A power supply was a company named Power One. The post claimed that the Power One model MAP110-4015 was a close replacement for the HP-8590A supply. I did some searching for the MAP110-4015 (guess what - it's no longer available except as surplus) and it did indeed seem to be a very similar unit. It seemed to lack a power dropout monitor circuit that the HP 8590A included, but otherwise very similar.
One long term project I've considered is getting a non-working HP 8590A supply and carefully taking it apart and reverse engineering it, as there still seems to be no real source of service information for the modules.
Good luck.
