Is a former HP 8568B engineer on this forum ?
I have an issue with the stability of the 21.4 MHz IF output of my HP 8568B.
Before I wade myself into the various PLL loops for fault location ( I have the complete RF service manuals ) I better ask for some experienced advice.
Someone on this list I could explain the problem in detail ?
Thanks.

It would be good to first determine if there is a problem with the internal reference. First try locking the reference to an external reference source. Also, another helpful troubleshooting technique is to put the analyzer in a narrow span (100 kHz) and a narrow RBW (100 Hz) and look to see if the displayed signal is stable when you have an signal connected to the RF input at the frequency of interest.
