Hi,
I have pair of struments:
PSA E4445A + MXG N5182A with External Source Control Measurement Personality, Option 215.
I configured hardware as indicated by the PSA during the setup of the "Source Control". MXG is placed automatically in "Remote Control". Setup a simple sweep 500 MHz to 1000 MHz, but the PSA continues to see the background noise and not a line set at power out of generator. Touching on the PSA RBW (enlargement) starts to operate but not at the level set on the generator.
It is possible that there is some problem with software and / or setting ?
Thansk.
Kappasm.

But I connected the reference, PSA have the external reference from MXG.
The display shows "Ext. Ref." ...
Other idea ?
Thanks Kappa.
Have you ruled out the possibility the MXG or PSA might be broken? I would use a power meter to test the MXG at a CW setting (not swept), maybe 0 dBm, and then connect to PSA to see if it reads a similar level. Try 1 GHz and also 4 GHz.
I think even the PSA software does not work well.
Thnaks.
