DSO5034A GPIB :SYSTEM:SETUP

I wrote subroutines that will save/restore the setup of a DSO5034A scope using the :SYSTEM:SETUP query and command.
The setup is saved as a string.

It works fine if I
- Save a setup
- Change the scope settings by hand.
- Restore the setup.

However, if I
- Save a setup
- Change the scope settings by hand.
- Save a SECOND setup
- Restore the FIRST setup.

The scope does not restore properly. It looks like it goes into a default setup with only one channel on, etc.

Using the :SYSTEM:ERROR? query, I get no errors except on restoring the FIRST setup
(as in the sequence above, after I have saved a SECOND setup.)

It says  -161 Invalid block data

If I then restore the SECOND setup, it works fine.
I am only able to restore the most RECENT setup that has been read with the :SYSTEM:SETUP? query.

What I want to do is to be able to save/restore a number of different scope configurations.
