Product documentation on the CD-ROM and Agilent website does not cover reference testing or mask testing. Are there any references or application notes that explain how this is set up and used?
The behavior and use of the DSO3000 mask function is described on page 77 of the Series3000 User's guide. You can download the current version of this guide from www.agilent.com.
There isn't sufficient information there to create a test mask. Might look okay to someone that already knows how to use the utility, but it is inadequate for new users.
The manual (or an app note) should have at least step by step example!
1. How is the basic shape of the mask established. Is it started from a captured waveform from the selected channel?
2. How does the user move the various mask boundaries? While turning the multifunction knob when X- or Y-Mask is selected, I don't see anything moving. Can specific mask boundaries be moved? If yes, how is a given boundary selected?
There are 3 pages of menu items under Utility->Mask. Utility->Mask Test->Enable must be ON
The basic shape must be present on Channel 1 or 2 prior to creating the mask. There is a menu item to choose which channel you want to mask.
The X-Y controls for the mask boundaries must be selected before creating the mask. These are proportional settings. You cannot adjust the boundaries of the mask after it is created.
The mask is saved separately via the Mask Save and Load mask menu items. Only 1 mask may be saved.
You may choose to output a signal, on Mask test failure, if you have an N2861A module attached.
To start a Mask test choose Utility->Mask Test->Operate
