At power on I'm getting this simple, one line message:
"E S@M G@IL!1=PQPQPQPQPQPQPQPG>m"
Pressing "preset" I get an HP logo for two seconds then the message again.
I thought it might be a checksum error so I've fitted fresh set of EEPROMS with v1.0 firmware.
Same message appears.
Does anyone know what the message means please?
I've found the answer so will post here in case someone else has this problem.
It's a slightly corrupted DRAM failure message from the startup tests.
These tests are detailed on page 291 of the 298 page Service manual.
It should look like:
D RAM FAIL m<********>1
The "D" has become an "E" and the "F" has become a "G" etc suggesting a failure of the LSB, (MD0) DRAM data line.
At least I know what it is now, all I have to do is find it.
