I have a 6812B AC power supply. I am trying to understand the overcurrent protection function. The shutdown delay seems to be dependent upon how much over the limit the current drawn is.

When I set the overcurrent limit to 0.95 amp and the load draws 1.0 amp the delay before shutdown is over 5 seconds. If I set the limit to 0.5 seconds then at 1.0 amps to the load the delay is about 3 seconds. I want to understand this to test a pc board but I want to protect the pc board against burning if a failed capacitor short-circuits.
