Thanks for the reply. I'm not getting any voltage out of the analog output and it doesn't change when the laser source is on or off. The display on the 8163 shows ~20mW, but no voltage on the analog output and I've tried the different ranges in manual mode as well a auto range mode. I guess we'll have to send it out for repair.
I don't think this is common and probably some kind of repair is needed.
But just to be sure that there is a problem: the analog output signal should be measured with a high-impedance input device (like a voltmeter) and the voltage will be proportional to the optical power in mW (not dBm). So if the power meter is for example set to the -10dBm range, then it should slow 1V with 100µW (-10dBm) optical input power and 0.1V with 10µW input.
