Hello,
The cables provided with my network analyzer have male ends and the calibration Tee has a male end. To perform an O,S,L calibration do you need an adapter to connect the tee to the cable? Picture of the cable and Tee attached.
If you're measuring a device with a female connection, will the calibration still be valid after removing the adapter?
Are calibration Tees with female connectors available?
Thank you for your help.
Yes, you will need a female-female adapter.
Your cal kit (the tee) would ideally match your DUT. Keysight does sell female cal kits (a female Type-N) tee.
In response to your question, is the calibration valid? If you ask a metrologist, they will say no. BUT many users will calibrate and "ignore" the effects of adapters. You can minimize the effect of the adapter by using one with good match and low loss. You can correct for the phase delay with port extensions. There are other methods too, to deal with the extra adapter. It also depends on you are measuring, mag and phase, or mag only, what type of tolerance/uncertainty you find acceptable (0.1 dB, 0.5 dB, 1 dB) etc.
Which FieldFox model are you considering? The N9912A has a different cal engine compared to the other models. Are you using CAT mode?
