Hi Mark,
I looked up your S/N and found that you should have these three licenses:

I believe I've reached the bottom of the information I have access to at this time. There is something funky going on with the database I used before, so I don't think the licenses I listed actually apply to your instrument. My apologies for this misinformation. Looks like your instrument is a genuine HP/Agilent E4402B which has option A4H (GPIB connection) as it says in your System dialog.
No worries. As mentioned initially, the plan is to do the memory upgrade (B72) and upgrade the firmware to A.14.06 and wanted to make sure I wasn't removing anything that would be difficult to restore. (I hope it still has color!)
Looking through the instrument's configuration guide, I don't see any reference to a color screen being an option. Therefore, I think it was standard on all E4402Bs. I don't think you'll have any problems with that.
For more information and for upgrade availability, the only place I can refer you to is the toll-free number I mentioned above.
OK, new problem. I fixed the "LO Unlock" and everything looked great. Decided to do the B72 memory upgrade and install the A.14.06 firmware. The ESALOADR program loads/runs but when I put in the 1st firmware disc it reads for a bit and stops with a white screen! Tried many times. Even put the original DRAM & FLASH boards back in and it still has a white screen. :-( What is happening? Will try loading A.07.06 firmware next but need to make the disc set.
Ug!!!
I recall we talked about upgrading firmware in this forum question a while back. All the same procedures should apply for the E4402B as with the E4403.
As for the white screen, first thing I would try is connecting to an external monitor with the VGA output on the back, but chances are you won't see anything different. The problem likely lies on the CPU board.
If all else fails, you can try resetting the RAM and/or the EPROM with the procedures on page 39 of the service guide.
Hi Scott - YES, we did. That's when the ESALOADR would not start. Fixed that by formatting the disc on another ESA and then it all worked fine. I used the same disc set for this 4402, which was working fine with A.07.06. Not sure what the problem is now but will keep trying and let you know.
Scott - FYI. Found the problem. Turns out the processor board is a bit picky about the manufacturer of the DRAM chips. I do not recall the mfg of the DRAMs on the SIMM I picked up from ebay but it did not like them. With the original 16MB SIMM (Samsung) it loaded the old firmware just fine. Have an "official" HP SIMM on the way and I am sure that will work.
Cheers!
