The instrument I used is 4294A impedance analyzer, I use GPIB-USB to connect the instrument and my computer. When I use the keysight connection expert 2018 to connect 4294A, the software cannot auto-identify this instrument. Furthermore, when I test the VISA address, system returned 'Failed: IDN read failed with status VI_ERROR_TMO' and 'lock for IDN read timed out with status VI_ERROR_TMO'.
But the system can detect USB serial port, and can use interactive IO, but still the same problem, 'VI_ERROR_TMO: A timeout occurred
Visa ErrorCode: 0xBFFF0015 (-1073807339)
! Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
Parameter name: index' when I query '*IDN?' .
Hi,
the 4294A does not have an RS-232 port and you said that you have a GPIB-USB interface, normally this interface will be displayed as on the picture in Connection Expert. I think what you see is not your USB-GPIB interface but a USB-RS-232 interface or an available port on your PC.
The test of the photo is simply: a USB-GPIB-B interface of National instrument, I connected the interface and I made a complete SCAN in Connection Expert and the interface appeared in the list. If the interface driver is not installed or incorrectly installed, it will not appear in the list. My setup is : GPIB0 and GPIB1 are PCI-GPIB cards and GPIB2 is USB-GPIB interface.
Can you specify the model of your USB-GPIB interface?
Regards
Yves
