Frequency Offset Measurement

I have been having difficulty getting frequency offset measurements to work with my E8363 PNA.  I set up a CW measurement with the CW frequency of 10.25GHz, the offset is 5.25GHz, and I have an external LO at 5.25GHz.  I can see the mixer product at 15.5GHz on a spectrum analyzer and it looks clean, but when I put this into port 2 of the PNA, I see a lot of noise. I looked at the phase response to try to see a beat note, but I just get random seeming noise at a number of different setting for sweep time and number of samples.  What am I doing wrong?

Also, is there any way to get the PNA to verify that it is using the external 10MHz reference I have plugged in to the back panel jack?  This is the reference I am using for the external 5.25GHz LO, so I would think this is necessary, but I can't find a way to get the PNA to tell me the status of the reference.
Thanks!
