Yes, you should definitely use one to protect the input for conducted measurements. The 11947A transient limiter is what you want. However, they have been discontinued. But, you can still purchase new ones from a company called Cokeva. They are still building them as the 11947C. You can find it on the web at: http://www.cokeva.com/services/part-11947c
