stepped sweep mode

At the moment i'm struggling with finding good measurment settings for a filter measurment (bandpass filter @ 3GHz with a FWHM of just 4kHz). I am using an ENA 5071C. In order to compensate for time delays of the long measurement cables (~6m), I use the stepped sweep mode. In a typical measurement I set a span of about 100kHz.

Does it make sense to make a measuerment with an IF-bw of 70kHz if the span is on the same order of magnitude? What I observed for short sweep times was that the signal at the beginning of the sweep was "distorted" (this got better for longer sweep times) and reminded me on a roll-off of a filter or something like that.
Secondly, what does the sweep time mean in the stepped sweep mode? According to the ENA Network Analyzer Help, the sweep time is ~1/IFbw. So what does the sweep time change in the situation I described before?

I would really be glad if someone could help me to solve these beginners questions.
