No I had not run self-test. I have now and self test passed. No error codes. Also, a little more on the GPIB problem is we tried the 33220A in several different test setups with different computers and different 82357B USB/GPIB interfaces. We could see the 33220A in all setups, but that was it.

It is a 33220a or a 53220a ?
Do you use Connection Expert of Keysight (IO librairies) to test communication with your instrument?
You tested unit with some basic command like *IDN? and you didn't have any answer ?

It is a 33220A generator. Sorry about the previous 53220 typo. No, we don't use connection expert. We have another program. I will add that we used 2 other 33220A in the same setups and they worked fine. Thinking this particular 33220A has a GPIB problem even though all other parts of it seem to work.

That is quite a peculiar problem, I will need some more information in order to assist you. I read your conversation with Yves, and I want to echo his question about the *IDN? command. What does it return when you send it?
Are you running Windows? What VISA are you using to communicate? Have you tried connecting up the instrument with a LAN cable and sending your commands?
It's possible the GPIB board could be broken, there is a service manual available on the instruments product page at Keysight.com .
