Why is Option DP2 or B40 recommended on the spectrum analyzer (EXA, MXA, PXA) with the EMI Measurement Application(N6141A)?
Time Domain Scan (TDS), Monitor Spectrum, and Amplitude Probability Distribution (APD) all require 2 GB of Capture memory (option DP2). Option B40 includes DP2, so having either option B40 or DP2 will work equally as well for N6141A. We recommend having 2 GB of Capture Memory so that customers can have all of the features available. The M9038A MXE includes DP2 with all Bandwidth options.
To help clarify, the MXE has a RF preselector about 10 MHz wide, which we use to meet CISPR’s sensitivity requirements. Since the preselector is only about 10 MHz wide, it doesn’t matter if the digitizer is option B10, B25 or B85, there is only 10 MHz of useful data.
The N9010A EXA, N9020A MXA, and N9030A PXA, do not have the RF preselector, but since N6141A is the same software used in the MXE, the algorithms only use 10 MHz of the bandwidth regardless of the digitizer being used. This is also true for TDS, wider bandwidths cannot be used in order to have faster FFT sweeps. For TDS the N6141A software only makes about 10 MHz acquisitions.
