I want to save smoothed and averaged sparameter, but I can only save raw data with E5071C. I read the help manual, it doesn't tell how to do that. Could anyone help to point out how to do that? Thanks in advance!
I'm not precisely sure, but if you save an S2P data it should contain the smoothing and averaging results. You might look for saving the formatted data, which should include both as well (by saving here, I mean reading back the data using the remote read commands.).
Hi Dr. Joel,
I appreciate your help! Attached is measured sparameter for a 6 meter long cable. Below is phase of S11 and S22. When I turn on average, I saw a relative smooth phase and amplitude curve, but after I saved the touch stone files and replot on computer, data is very noisy. I looked over all possible settings in E5071, but I didn’t find any setting to let me save averaged sparameter.
You might try using "groups" mode. Set the averaging factor and the groups sweep factor the same, restart the averaging and start a groups sweep. OR, just wait for averaging to finish and put the sweep in hold. I think it might use the "held" data for the S2P save so you might get the average result then. If not, we'll have to pull in the ENA experts (I'm mostly familiar with PNA and PXI VNA).
Good news is the new ENA (E5080) uses the same code as PNA, PXI VNA, and so it will have the more flexible capability of the PNA.
