The current firmware is A.08.16 for the FieldFox with "older" CPUs. Is this the last we'll see for these instruments being as versions with "newer" CPUs are now available?
Essentially yes. If critical firmware bugs are discovered in A.08.16, then we will make a firmware turn, and based on my years of experience, whether with this product or other products, this will happen. Opportunistically, new features may end in that turn. But in general, new features and enhancements will be designed for the A.09.xx firmware. Please note the availability of CPU upgrades.
N9910HU-500 which is the upgrade kit for the N9923A is priced at $3105.00.
Thanks, Afsi. I was unaware of the CPU upgrade kit and just now downloaded the brochure for it.
Another alternative to consider is trading in your used N9923A for a new N9913A or N9914A, depending on your frequency needs. The N9913/4A are the next generation of FieldFoxes with a number of improvements, and they are the combo analyzers, meaning you can add spectrum analysis any day you wanted. I don't know what type of trade-in credit you will be offered (your distributor or sales engineer can help with that), but it is worth a consideration. A new N9913A or 14A will have the new CPU. You'll need some options on the combo analyzer to get the VNA capability.
