We are looking for a bit of an all purpose oscilloscope. We'd like one which is capable of analyzing digital video (specifically, all forms of HD-SDI and 3G-SDI - though 4K would be nice for the future, we expect this capability is beyond our present budget), a vareity of digital protocols (the more the merrier, e.g., I2C/SPI/I2S, PCM, 2-wire, RS-232, Arinc 429, and so forth) as well as being useful in the analysis of power electronics and their control circuitry).
Understanding this is a bit of a tall order, any and all recommendations will be useful.
Thank you for your time and consideration in advance.
Difficult. HD-SDI means you're looking at a 4GHz scope, 3G-SDI doubles the data rate and requires even more BW (6-8GHz?), and the 4K formats will go beyond that.
For HD-SDI I'd probably go with the Infiniium 9404A, as it has the required BW. When the time comes where you need 3G-SDI and 4K-SDI then you're probably looking at the Infiniium Q.
For other, more mundane serial standards like ARINC429 which all require little BW it's probably more economical to just get a DSO-X3000T Series scope and equip it with the required serial decode options, which will be cheaper than to buy the same options for a high BW scope.
