Differential Measurements

I want to monitor a voltage that goes periodically from 1 to 5 volts.  If I run the scope on "AUTO" trigger, I can see the event occur.  What I want to do is trigger off the event.

Sound simple?

Here's the rub:

I can't have the scope ground tied into the circuit, as it will affect my readings.  (Scopes tie their returns to Earth Ground.)  By using the dual channel, I can get a differential reading.  I can see the signal transition, but can't trigger off it.

The real problem is the scope (Agilent 6000 series) doesn't have a way to trigger off a math generated waveform.

Any ideas?

(And DON'T say "float the scope".  I'm not going to bypass a critical scope design requirement in this fashion)
