I opened my 8753ES the other day to check the battery, but opened the top when the CPU board was underneath! I soon worked out where the CPU was, and found the battery was fine.
But while the top was open, I peered inside and noticed 3 identical modules side-by-side with a single RF connector on them. But there was a slot for a 4th one, but it was empty. I did not spend any time trying to work out what these 3 modules were, but I think there was a good chance they were the 3 receivers.
It made me wonder if Agilent were intending adding a 4th receiver to a later 8753, but never bothered. It just seemed a bit odd to have space for 4 modules, but only 3 filled.

> short answer: no. But when we went to the bigger box, the ME that designed it had just finished the 8720 (which had 4 receivers) and was determined to add the space for it just in case. Turns out we would also have to redesign the Dig IF board, and test set. Not a lot of benefit in it at the time.
Cheers Joel,
You at least confirmed my suspicion that the space was left for a receiver, although I can see that it would have needed quite major changes, especially as it would not have worked with the old external test sets.
It is strange the 4 type-N connectors on the front of the 8753ES option 011 (no internal test set) do not line up with the connectors on the 85046A/85046B/85047A test sets. It seems HP in their infinite wisdom moved the N connectors about 20 mm to the left on the 8753ES, so the cables go on slanted - see photo. I would have thought sorting out the placement of the N connectors was one of the first things to do, not an afterthought!
