Agilent 33220A Extended error messages?

Question asked by blindgoat on Feb 22, 2016
The manual says that some error messages contain additional information following a semicolon.  An example is the set of messages associated with the code -222 ("Data out of range").  Every variant shown in the manual contains one or more additional clauses elaborating on the source of the error.  An example is

222 Data out of range; marker confined to sweep span; value clipped to ...

I have incurred such an error but when I retrieve the error message over ethernet using the command "system:error?" I only get the leading part of the error message ("Data out of range").

Is there any way I can get the additional text of the message as shown in the manual?
