HP 8753C after cal: softkey labels are backwards and upside

I didn't believe it until I saw it. A user has an HP 8753C with 85046B T/S that displays the softkeys backwards and upside down after he does a user calibration. Everything straightens up at Preset. Any ideas how to correct this abnormality??

Cool; There is no software fix (ROMs are all long gone), you might try the reset memory function (you'll have to look it up in the support documents). There was one that would clear all CMOS. You might try checking the battery (I think C had a battery), but the solution must be hardware, as there is not much chance of changing firmware.
