Grounding all input lines to 34980A/34921T while operational

In the interest of ESD prevention we are being asked to clamp all input lines to our 34921T->34980 temporarily to "house" ground prior to connecting to our DUT to prevent any potential discharge into our DUT.  Would doing this with the unit powered up pose any threat to the calibration or functionality of the 34921T or 34980. The unit would be setup for resistance, voltage and thermal couple measurement.
If doing something like this "HOT" is not advised is there a preferred method to "bleed" or "drain" the input path for ESD considerations?
