hi all,
if i would like to input a weak signal into our SA and without the internal pre amp option, i am substituting an external pre amp with gain like 30dB, NF 6dB.
from Agilent application note, the pre amp will lower down the DANL of the instrument, but may i know will this noise figure spec affecting the accuracy of the reading?
example, -60dbm input power reading become worse after adding the pre amp?
thanks you for the confirmation.

Depending on the SA model, you may be able to enter the external preamplifier gain value into the analyzer. Once this is done the noise floor will decrease and the signal amplitudes should also all read correctly. If there is not a physical softkey for external preamplifier gain, you can also use the reference level offset feature.
