MSO7054B only acquires 1Mpoint???

I have recently purchased a second-hand MSO7504B. I was under the impression that all 7000 scopes had 8M of sample memory by default, but I only seem to be able to get 1Mpt. e.g. when I make a Single-shot acquisition at 10ms/div (100ms across the screen) the sample rate shown at the bottom-right of the screen says 10MSa/s, and sure enough if I zoom in and set the display to Points, I can see that there is one point every 100ns.
If I move the (un-zoomed) display left or right, there is no more signal acquisition extending off the left or right of the screen. This situation exists for all timebase settings i.e. the product of the screen width and the displayed sample rate gives 1Mpt.

The installed license list doesn't show any 'mem8M', but that didn't bother me, because I thought it was standard. Am I wrong? Am I doing something wrong?
