FPGA “hardware-in-the-loop” (HIL) has been used for many years to validate & debug model-based signal processing designs in communications and Radar systems, as well as accelerate those design somewhat closer to real-time speeds for greater test coverage.  What has been less successful is tying that tried & true digital debug technique to a larger system-level design that might include RF simulations, Standards-based IP references, and live test equipment.
