Input/output Referred Noise of Amplifier

Is it valid to use a spectrum to measure the output referred noise of an amplifier?
Assume a single-ended input, single-ended output amplifier. Procedure: input terminated, measure noise power density in dbm/hz, apply correction factors for detector, rbw, then translate to V/rootHz. Divide by gain, gives input referred noise.
Assume sufficient gain to boost noise beyond spectrum's noise floor.
