We are having a dispute at work with some people insisting on starting a new project for instrument control using Linux, while others are saying we should use Windows.
I know that instruments that accept SCPI commands can be controlled from essentially any OS. But the question is, can devices like PXI arbs, digitizers, sources, etc., be controlled from Linux?
Thanks for any help you might give.

You can get basic functionality for box instruments on Linux, but the API's and libraries are very limited/opensource (and not supported by Agilent).
99% of the Agilent PXI cards will only work on Windows (I think there is a family of digitizers that work on Linux).
