Signal Generator Frequency for Phase Noise Experiment

Dear Sir:

I am new to testing for phase noise.

I am thinking about testing the phase noise of a signal generator source with a spectrum analyzer.

However, I read this about the signal source I was planning to use:

"The synthesized sweep generator offers ...a resolution of 1 to 4 Hz over the frequency range of 10 MHz to 26.5 GHz".

When I test for phase noise for an unlocked, signal source, can you tell me the required frequency resolution of the spectrum analyzer  to conduct the phase noise test and can you give me an idea of the signal  source stability that would be required so as not to output erroneous data?

      Thank you in advance.
