vrf RS-232 Read Terminator

Question asked by WDrago on Sep 24, 2007
Hi Doug,

Sounds like the easiest thing to do is set your read terminator to
then read one more byte to get rid of the
that follows.

Or you could read one byte at a time into a collector until you see the
sequence, then break the loop. That's a little more code and will run a little slower too, but it will work.

Hi Bill,

That’s what I’ve been doing and it works well enough except in one case where my product will return a response that includes multiple “
”’ in it but the end of the response is terminated by “
”.   So my UUT response looks something like this:

Status 1 = good
Status 2 = good
………up to……Status N = good

This way the digital guys get a response which looks like this

Status 1 = good

Status 2 = good

……..up to

Status N = good (end of message)

So for now I’ve been doing multiple reads and using a junction to glue them back together again.  I though I might have been missing some detail about read terminators though.

Hi Doug,

That makes sense to me. The read terminator is a single char. If your 232 strings end with
, set the terminator to
, then filter out the
.

Hello,

In VEE, it seems that only a single character can be specified as a read terminator.  I would like to terminate the read on “
”.  When I go into the advanced properties of the RS-232 interface and change the read terminator to “
”, close, and then re-open the advanced properties, it only retains the “
”.  Has anyone dealt with this before?

Thanks in advance,

Hi

Just a small clean-up....

Adding "
" in the first "From String" so that size of the array only is 2 & then the "strFromLen(str, from, len)" is not needed.

And replacing "sum(x)" + "strFromLen(str,from,len)" with a "To String".

I love Token

This comes on the same day we have a question about reading tokens. Here's one way.
