vrf Brother Label Printer-USB

Question asked by VRFuser on Mar 12, 2008
Tom,

One approach I use (with Zebra printers) is to send the print script to lpt1 using the ‘To File’ command.  Just install the printer as normal i.e. set up the printer as its own port (local or network), then in windows Print Manager select the lpt1 port, choose ‘Enable Pooling’, and select the Brother printer.  Vee will print to lpt1 and print manager should do the rest.

Subject: [vrf] Brother Label Printer-USB

I have programmed (through VEE) older RS-232 label printers with no problem.  I set them up as RS-232 devices in the Instrument Manager.  A few goofy control characters, and everything worked well.

Unfortunately (or fortunately-most of the time) most RS-232 things are history, so I recently purchased a Brother QL-500 label printer, USB style.  The printer works stand alone magnificantly, but for the life of me I can't get anything to even come close to even loading through VEE.  Brother distributes something called 'Brother bPAC SDK' which looks like it's what I want, but I'm at a lstandstill in trying to figure it out.  Any suggestions?  I tried loading about everything I could through ActiveX, .Net, etc.  with no luck...

I tried to send the pdf for this, but VRF rejected it as being too large.  Here's the url: http://www.brother.com/bpac/uk/bpacsdk_download.html

Buy.com has these on sale now and I'd like to get another if I can get the first one to work through VEE!  It's very nice to attach a sticker on things after testing...

Thanks
