PNA-X Point Sweep mode problem

Using the PNA-X E8364B with fw A.09.33.09.

I'm doing normal 2-port measurements of a through. Recently we've noticed that when doing a single sweep, we get 3 - 4 sweeps where the measurement gives an S21 of -10 to 15 dB and be very noisy, and a S11 of close to zero. Then the sweep will give a correct, non-noisy, S21 of about -0.1dB. Then the next sweep might be good or it might be the bad sweep again. This has happened on several machines.

After playing around, it seems to be a problem with being in the Point Sweep mode. When I switch to Standard Sweep I get reliably good measurements. I don't know how the PNA-X got into Point Sweep mode, whether it's set automatically when some action is taken, or whether some technician sets it. It's not part of our procedure.

Is this a problem with Point Sweep mode?
