Agilent E3631A output setting problem

Hi,
I just started learning to use SCPI to program E3631A in VEE Pro Direvt I/O.
I had no problem running the following commands to set the +6V ouput to 5.0V.
-------------------------------------
WRITE TEXT "INST P6V" EOL
WRITE TEXT "VOLT 5.0" EOL
WRITE TEXT "OUTP ON" EOL
--------------------------------------

However, if I change the second line of command to - WRITE TEXT "VOLT", A EOL. of course an input named "A" is automatically added. I then connect a Real32 type of constant to the input "A" so that later on I can change the voltage value easily. When I ran the code again, an error message was generated "ERROR-113" displayed on the power supply. Per the user manual, error code 113 is "undefined header". But I don't see anything wrong in the syntax.
Can you please help? Thanks a lot.
