Hello,
i have a 8591A spectrum analyzer and i would like to attach an external monitor, the 8591A offers a MONITOR OUT at the rear wich delivers a NTSC signal with 19.2KHz horizontal rate. In the service manual i found, that the HP82913A is recommended as a monitor, but this one have 15.75KHz. So how can this work?
I tried to attach the MONITOR OUT to an USB frame grabber and to the VIDEO IN of my TV card, but i can't get a clear picture (see attachment) because of the wrong horizontal rate.
Is there a way to change the horizontal rate of the 8591A?
Any hints?
Kind regards,
Jan

I use to work as a technician on the 8590 series production line when we were producing both the 8591A and 8591E at the same time. As you mentioned, the sync rate of the 8591A is 19.2 kHz while the 8591E is 15.75 kHz. Many of the HP monitors that we used for our test stations had the ability to adjust their sync rate from the rear panel with a range wide enough such that they could work with both of these rates. These could have been HP82913As, but I don't remember for sure, so if you have one of these, or can still find one, it may just work.
The whole reason that the rate was changed to 15.75 kHz with the "E" release was to solve this very issue, especially for our CATV customers...
I'm not aware of any external device that you could use to translate this rate to anything else.
Best regards,
Mike
