vrf Vee 8.5 license issue

Question asked by VRFuser on Nov 9, 2007
Hi all,

Let me clarify the Agilent VEE license terms, the Agilent VEE 8.5 license term is same as since version 7.0 and it has not change. Here are the license to use and license to distribute terms and conditions.

License to Use. You may use one copy of the software portion of the Licensed Materials on a single computer in your workplace and on a single computer located in your home. In addition, you may install the Licensed Materials on an additional computer or system with run-time capability for the sole purpose of program or system debug. Upon completion of debug, you must uninstall the Licensed Materials from the computer or system. With respect to the software portion of the Licensed Materials, "use" means to install, store, display, execute and use the software on the computer or system for which you have paid the corresponding license fee.

License to Distribute. Agilent grants you a non-exclusive license to distribute the Licensed Materials subject to the following conditions:

(i)                   for software with run-time capability, Agilent grants you a non-exclusive license to distribute the run-time portion of the Licensed Materials provided that the third party receiving Licensed Materials pursuant to your right to distribute granted herein accepts these License Terms with the following exception: THE RUN-TIME PORTION OF THE LICENSED MATERIALS IS PROVIDED "AS-IS" AND WITHOUTWARRANTY OF ANY KIND, WRITTEN OR ORAL, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANYWARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE;

(ii)                 any full or partial distribution of the Licensed Materials with software development capabilities requires the purchase of a license to the Licensed Materials for each copy distributed;

(iii)                you do not use Agilent's name, logo, trademarks or similar intellectual property to market your product;

(iv)                you include an Agilent copyright notice (consistent with the copyright notice in the Licensed Materials) with your product; and

(v)                  you indemnify, defend and hold Agilent harmless from any third-party claim resulting from the use or distribution of your product.

That’s a relief – back to pushing management for an upgrade.

We have 3 licenses, two for use in the lab and one for my office desktop PC so I can install one of the 3 licenses on my home PC.

Hi Dave,

From the license.txt file:

“you may use one copy of the software portion of the Licensed Materials on a single computer in your workplace and on a single computer located in your home. “

I think Flex-lm has been there all the time, just a different user interface

- and it is NOT locked to the MAC address (except for 6.1).

Best Regards

Delmar

This isn’t the same FLEX technology that has made such a mess of the latest Adobe CS3 software is it? I have heard many horror stories about licenses stopping working and locking users out of their software – I would hate to think that could happen with something we use for production testing.

We are still on Vee 7.0 and I do a fair bit of Vee program development at home (unpaid overtime - sad I know), would Vee 8.5 prevent me from doing this without the company having to purchase an extra license, which is very unlikely to happen and would be a show stopper as far as upgrading goes.
