Hello, I am wondering if there is a way to use an external trigger to turn the RF on and off? I don't have a specific signal generator as my lab has various Agilent signal generator models. I did not see anyway to use an external trigger to setup a certain duty cycle and period to turn a signal generator's output on and off. Does anyone have a way of doing this? I can use Labview to do this, but it's a bit slow and I want to mimic the actually system operation. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Most Agilent signal generators such as the PSG, MXG, or ESG have an amplitude step or list sweep function. You can program two amplitude points in the step sweep. For example, on the MXG you set one point at 0 dBm and the other at -144 dBm. You can then use the point triggering function to toggle between these two points. This point trigger event can come from an external TTL/CMOS trigger. The -144dBm amplitude setting is similar to turning the RF off.
Hope this helped.
