Is it possible to use the E444xA PSA (configured for N5531S) to substitute for the HP 8901A or HP 8902A Modulation Analyzer to test the (1) Residual FM & AM and (2) FM Distortion performance of the HP 11715A AM/FM Test Source? The Performance Tests section of the HP 11715A manual shows taking a modulation output signal from the HP8901A and feeding it into an RMS voltmeter. Is there an equivalent signal output available from the E444xA PSA?
THANKS.
THANKS.
The N5531S / PSA Series Spectrum Analyzer Measuring Receiver personality can directly measure residual FM and AM without the need for a modulation output and an RMS voltmeter. For specification regarding measuring residual AM and FM, please refer to the Measuring Receiver measurement personality chapter within the PSA Series Spectrum Analyzer Specifications Guide. http://cp.literature.agilent.com/litweb/pdf/E4440-90647.pdf The PSA Series Spectrum Analyzer doesn’t have a modulation output port. It does have a video output port that can be used in the SA mode, and it is possible to off tune from carrier frequency to externally slope detect a modulated signal; however, this will not work for measuring residual AM/FM.
