8516A and 83631A

Question asked by paszczakojad on Apr 10, 2012
Hi,

I have an old 8510C analyzer with 8515A test set and 83631B source. I'm considering buying an used 8516A test set to extend its range to 40 GHz in a cheap way (instead of 8517A and 83651B).

Now I have a few questions:
- what is the drawback of using 8516 with frequency doubler instead of "fundamental" signal source? I can't find any detailed 8516 specifications. Will 8516 perform worse than 8515 in 20-26.5 GHz range?
- will 8516A work with 83631B instead of 83621B (assuming feeding max. 20 GHz from 83631)?

Best regards,

Piotr
